Managing Collections

Complete guide to organizing, saving, and managing your keyword collections

8 min readUpdated August 2025

Saved Collections are your organizational workspace for managing keywords throughout your SEO workflow. Collections help you organize keywords by campaign, topic, client, or any system that works for your strategy.

What are Collections?

Collections are organized groups of keywords that you've saved from your analysis and research activities. Each collection can contain thousands of keywords and maintains all the rich SEO data from your original analysis (except for rank and estimated traffic from Competitor Research runs).

Collection Features

  • Rich Metadata: Names, descriptions, and automatic timestamps
  • Full SEO Data: Complete SERP analysis, weakness detection, and scores
  • Re-analysis Capability: Update keyword data as SERPs change
  • Export Options: CSV export for external tools and reporting
  • Advanced Filtering: Same powerful filters as your analysis results

Creating Collections

Method 1: From Saved Collections Page

The most direct way to create a new collection:

  1. Navigate to Saved Collections in the main menu
  2. Click the "New Collection" button
  3. Enter a unique name (required)
  4. Add an optional description to document the collection's purpose
  5. Click "Create Collection"
Tip
Use descriptive names like "Q4 Content Campaign" or "Competitor Analysis - Brand X" to make collections easy to identify later.

Method 2: During Keyword Saving

You can also create collections on-the-fly when saving keywords:

  1. Select keywords from analysis or research results
  2. Click "Save Keywords"
  3. Choose "Create New Collection" instead of selecting an existing one
  4. Name your collection and optionally add a description
  5. Your keywords will be saved to the new collection automatically

Saving Keywords to Collections

Keywords can be saved to collections from both analysis results and research results, each with different data completeness:

From Analysis Results

Keywords saved from analysis contain complete SEO data:

  • Search Volume & CPC: Commercial data from Google Ads
  • Keyword Difficulty: Competition analysis
  • SERP Weaknesses: Detected ranking opportunities
  • Domain Scores: Competitor authority analysis
  • Complete SERP Data: Top 10 results with full metadata
  • KeywordScore: ClearSERP's opportunity ranking

From Research Results

Keywords saved from research are "suggestions" awaiting full analysis:

  • Basic Data: Search volume, CPC, and difficulty
  • Research Context: How the keyword was discovered
  • Analysis Status: Marked as "non-analyzed" for later processing
Note
Research keywords can be re-analyzed later to get complete SERP data and weakness detection.

Managing Your Collections

Collections Overview

The Saved Collections page provides an at-a-glance view of all your collections:

  • Collection Cards: Visual grid layout with key information
  • Keyword Count: Real-time count of saved keywords
  • Last Updated: When the collection was last modified
  • Quick Actions: Edit, delete, or view each collection

Editing Collections

Update collection metadata without affecting the saved keywords:

  1. Click the Edit icon on any collection card
  2. Modify the name or description
  3. Click "Save Changes"
Warning
Collection names must be unique across your account. The system will prevent duplicate names to avoid confusion.

Deleting Collections

Deleting a collection permanently removes both the collection and all saved keywords within it:

  1. Click the Delete icon (trash can) on the collection card
  2. Confirm the deletion in the dialog that appears
  3. The collection and all keywords are permanently removed
Warning
Collection deletion cannot be undone. Export your keywords first if you need to preserve the data.

Working with Keywords in Collections

Workflow Optimization

Regular Maintenance

  • Monthly Re-analysis: Keep competitive data current
  • Quarterly Reviews: Archive completed campaigns
  • Export Backups: Download important collections regularly

Credit Management

  • Batch Re-analysis: More efficient than individual keyword analysis
  • Strategic Timing: Re-analyze before major content pushes
  • Focus on Value: Prioritize high-opportunity keywords for re-analysis

Performance & Limits

Collection Size

  • Recommended: Under 5,000 keywords per collection for optimal performance
  • Maximum: No hard limit, but larger collections load progressively
  • Loading: Collections load in batches of 200 keywords for responsiveness

Re-analysis Efficiency

  • Batch Processing: Re-analyzing multiple keywords is more efficient (you can re-analyze up to 1,000 keywords at a time)
  • Credit Costs: Same analysis pricing applies (30 credits minimum, better rates for larger batches)
  • Background Jobs: Re-analysis operations run in the background, so you can safely navigate away from the page and come back later to see the results

Troubleshooting

Common Issues

"Collection Not Found" Error

  • Check that you're signed in to the correct account
  • Verify the URL is correct and complete
  • The collection may have been deleted

Slow Loading Collections

  • Large collections (1,000+ keywords) load progressively
  • Wait for the loading indicator to complete
  • Consider breaking very large collections into smaller, focused groups

Re-analysis Not Working

  • Check your available credit balance
  • Ensure keywords are selected before clicking re-analyze
  • Large re-analysis jobs may take several minutes to process

Missing Keywords After Save

  • Large batches process in the background - check again in a few minutes
  • Verify you're looking in the correct collection
  • Check the "All Keywords" tab if you're in a filtered view
Tip
If you encounter persistent issues, check your internet connection and try refreshing the page. Collections sync in real-time, so data should appear quickly under normal conditions.
